Uniting five new identities under the Barnsley Museums brand

The client

Barnsley Museums are part of Barnsley MBC and have five museums in their care including a 16th-century working mill, a Georgian mansion house and the new award-winning Experience Barnsley, which showcases the history of the town and stories of the local people.

Overarching identity

Develop a family suite of five museum identities under the overarching Barnsley Museums brand and provide a visual platform and guidelines for consistent application.

Museum identities

Each museum’s identity was created around the iconic building in which they are housed. A single colour was selected to differentiate each, while a common font and typography was selected to unite the suite.

Application to signage and merchandise

The final application had to be considered for the design of each identity as the logos had to work hard across a vast array of merchandise and signage.

The logos have been carved into wood, etched into glass, cut out of vinyl and even printed onto pencil sharpeners, so they have had to withstand some rigorous application challenges.

This was a vital project for the borough and we needed to get it right first time, so when it came to choosing an agency to work with us we needed someone we could rely on to help us achieve our objectives. It was soon very clear that Ledgard Jepson were the right agency, taking firm control from the outset and leading us through a potentially tricky project.
