Sheffield’s 2018 World Cup host city bid

Sheffield’s 2018 World Cup host city bid

Designing and producing a FIFA World Cup™ bid document was an opportunity too good to miss for our MD David Exley. He is passionate about football (even though he is a Barnsley fan) and he jumped at the chance to work with Wayne Coyle, Sheffield 2018 Bid Director to produce the three staged bid document which outlined Sheffield's bid to become a host city at the FIFA World Cup™ 2018 or 2022.

We worked closely with the bid team to develop the concept Every Game a Home Game and commissioned Sheffield photographer David Short to bring this to life visually. These images were used on bill boards and advertising around the city to create momentum behind the campaign.

We then created three substantial staged bid documents, the first two documents, both over 200 pages in length were produced to tight deadlines specified by England 2018. Our production team burned the midnight oil on several occasions to ensure Sheffield progressed to the final stages.

The third and final bid book was quite an undertaking. It weighed in at a massive 480 pages and contained information about the city and its facilities, football stadia, transport links, accommodation and big event experience along with its passion to host the FIFA World Cup™ in 2018. It contained in a bespoke binder and slipcase with 20 dividers and a hand written letter from Dennis who was the face of the bid (pictured left on the cover) to Sepp Blatter, President of FIFA telling him why Sheffield should host the FIFA World Cup™ 2018.

Wayne Coyle Sheffield 2018 Bid Director said of the document, "You really have produced a document of exceptional standard and one that we will be very pleased to hand in to the FA. I hope this one was enjoyable as well as challenging; you should be very proud of the out put. I really do recognize that you have done over and above and the passion to get it right is very evident".

David Fletcher Director of Business Investment at Creative Sheffield added in very simple terms, "I'm sure that the LJ factor will have positioned Sheffield in a strong light"

In December 2009, it was announced that Sheffield was successful in its bid to become Candidate Host City along with another 12 cities across England.
