Barnsley MBC have in their care 4 heritage sites within the borough namely Cannon Hall, Worsbrough Mill, Elsecar Heritage Centre and The Cooper Gallery all with an illustrious industrial past. In 2013 they opened their flagship museum Experience Barnsley with the help of Heritage Lottery funding creating a 5th museum in the family.
After a competitive tender, we were awarded the contract to brand Barnsley’s visitor economy, tourism offer and create identities for Barnsley Museums and the 5 museums.
The Visit Barnsley identity very cleverly pays homage to the incredibly successful Welcome to Yorkshire brand by utilising their iconic ‘Y’. The five museum icons depict the distinctive buildings, whilst the Barnsley Museums identity is made up from the fresh contemporary colour palette from each of museums.
The scope of the contract also included a Visit Barnsley website and a micro site for each of the museums designed to introduce visitors to Barnsley and highlight things to do, places to visit etc. as well as research, insight and site visits, brand development, icon creation, typography, image research, copywriting, web design/development, and project management.
A comprehensive set of brand guidelines were also created as well as a suite of leaflets, event guides, wedding and events brochures, signage and an app.
